Christian cleric and former Muslim, Prophet Isa El-Buba, has strongly condemned Islamic scholar Sheikh Saliu Yahaya Jingir over remarks in which Christians were reportedly described as “infidels.”
El-Buba, reacting to the controversial comments, criticised the cleric for making statements he said could deepen religious tensions and division in Nigeria.
In a strongly worded response, El-Buba questioned the rationale behind referring to fellow Nigerians as infidels because of their Christian faith, describing such rhetoric as irresponsible and dangerous in a religiously diverse country.
“You now come out calling Christians infidels,” El-Buba said while addressing Sheikh Jingir, according to a video of his response circulated online. He also referred to the cleric as a “mindless creature” and condemned what he viewed as an attempt to promote religious hostility.
The comments come amid renewed public debate over religious rhetoric, Christian-Muslim relations and the responsibility of religious leaders to promote peaceful coexistence in Nigeria.
El-Buba’s reaction has further drawn attention to the need for responsible communication by religious figures, particularly at a time when inflammatory statements can easily heighten tensions between communities.
