Tinubu Urges Clerics to Speak Out Against Terrorism, Banditry and Kidnapping

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called on religious leaders across Nigeria to use their influence to speak firmly against terrorism, kidnapping, banditry and the misuse of religion to justify violence.

The President made the appeal on Sunday, August 9, 2026, urging Christian and Muslim clerics to contribute more actively to efforts aimed at promoting peace, national unity and security.

Tinubu stressed that religious leaders have an important role to play in shaping the values and attitudes of millions of Nigerians, particularly at a time when insecurity remains a major concern across the country.

He urged clerics not to remain silent when criminal activities are presented or defended as religious causes, insisting that terrorism and other forms of violence should not be given religious justification.
