Biography of Pastor Fernando Bochio

Pastor Fernando Bochio is a Brazilian pastor, theologian, and ministry leader who has served as the Portuguese-language voice of Pastor Chuck Swindoll's teaching ministry, Insight for Living, since 2002. He leads *Razão Para Viver* (RPV), Insight for Living's Portuguese-language broadcast and pastor-training ministry based in Brazil, and has worked alongside his wife and ministry partner, Ieda, for more than four decades of marriage.

Ministry Background

Pastor Fernando Bochio has served as a pastor for more than 35 years, alongside work as a theology lecturer, conference speaker, and international consultant for Christian organizations. Before focusing full-time on his role with Insight for Living, he simultaneously pastored a local church, taught at a university, and worked as a consultant — a demanding season he has since stepped back from in order to devote himself fully to the Portuguese-language ministry he now leads.

Becoming the Voice of Insight for Living Portuguese

In 2002, Pastor Fernando Bochio became the Portuguese-language voice of Pastor Chuck Swindoll, translating and recording Swindoll's sermons for Portuguese-speaking audiences around the world. Over more than two decades in this role, he has become closely identified with the ministry, personally introduced by Swindoll himself as the leader of *Razão Para Viver* in the ministry's own promotional materials.

Beyond translation and broadcasting, Fernando carries a strong personal commitment to mentoring and training other pastors — work that has taken him across Brazil's major cities, including São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, and Belo Horizonte, as well as to more remote communities, including indigenous peoples, riverside communities along the Amazon, and the *sertanejos*, farmers in Brazil's arid interior regions. He has also traveled internationally in this capacity, including a 2024 trip to Angola and Mozambique, where he and his team taught Chuck Swindoll's *Searching the Scriptures* Bible-study curriculum to approximately 200 pastors.

In 2022, Fernando completed his doctorate at Dallas Theological Seminary, the same institution where Chuck Swindoll has served as chancellor.

## Razão Para Viver (Insight for Living Brazil)

Fernando leads **Razão Para Viver (RPV)**, Insight for Living's Portuguese-language ministry, which began broadcasting in 1988 through Trans World Radio. Today, 22 radio stations across Brazil carry the broadcast, reaching a potential audience of 210 million Portuguese speakers, with additional stations extending the ministry's reach into Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique, France, Portugal, and the United States.

Under Fernando's leadership, the RPV team has translated more than 20 biblical resources into Portuguese, launched a dedicated Portuguese-language website, and built an active social media presence, while also partnering with local ministries for in-person teaching and Bible study. In 2021, the team completed a full Portuguese translation of Insight for Living's *Searching the Scriptures* pastor-training curriculum — a resource now being used to train church leaders from major cities to rural towns.

RPV also partners with missionaries working deep in the Amazon, who in some cases rely on solar-powered radios to bring the broadcast to riverside communities otherwise cut off from such resources. The ministry recently relocated its headquarters from São Paulo to Jundiaí to expand its reach, in pursuit of Insight for Living's broader *Vision 195* initiative to extend Chuck Swindoll's teaching ministry into all 195 countries of the world.

## Marriage and Family

Fernando Bochio is married to **Ieda Bochio**, who serves as Executive Director of Insight for Living Portuguese, overseeing the ministry's operations and maintaining its connection with listeners. Ieda holds five advanced degrees in healthcare and science. Fernando and Ieda have been married for more than 40 years and have children and grandchildren together. Fernando enjoys adventure, nature, and riding his motorbike, while Ieda enjoys gardening, cooking, and baking; the couple are known for welcoming visitors into their home and sharing a love of dancing together.
