Be a Witness for Christ: Gospel Today Devotional - 5th April, 2024

LESSONS FROM ANDREW

God be praised for the privilege he has given us to go through this series. The series would soon come to an end but before that happens, we still have some things to learn and we shall be seeing another very important lesson today. I trust that the Lord himself will minister to our very hearts. Amen.

Be a Witness for Christ: Gospel Today Devotional - 5th April, 2024

From previous lessons, we have been able to see that just simple messages as "Come and see" can so make people come to Jesus as such was the strategy used by the woman of Samaria and Philip. Also, it is evident from previous lessons that ours is not to argue nor to defend ourselves but to lovingly convince people by the help of the Lord to just come and see.

It is also important to note from previous lessons that we are not to preach anything else aside Christ if we call ourselves witnesses for him. He is the message and him alone we should preach as such was the case of Philip. Hallelujah! Let's take a look at the passage of scripture below,

"One of the two which heard John speak , and followed him, was Andrew, Simon Peter's brother. [41] He first findeth his own brother Simon, and saith unto him, We have found the Messias, which is, being interpreted, the Christ. [42] And he brought him to Jesus. And when Jesus beheld him, he said, Thou art Simon the son of Jona: thou shalt be called Cephas, which is by interpretation, A stone." (John 1:40-42).

Today, we shall be considering Andrew as a case study. Let's just do a brief introduction on Andrew. He was one of the twelve chosen by our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. He was also the brother to Simon Peter. Why are we considering this man as a case study? What do we have to learn from him as witnesses for Christ? As believers, one thing we find difficult to do is to witness Christ to those who are very closely related to us.

It is difficult to say whether the reason for such is the fear of being rejected or the familiarity that sets in. Is it not true to say that many believers find it so difficult to witness Christ to our friends, parents and siblings, spouse, children including myself? We can spend time laughing with them, sleeping with them, playing with them but just never get that time to share the gospel with them. Many people through us have come to the knowledge of the gospel yet our loved ones although with us have never heard from us anything about Christ. It is my prayer that God gives us the grace to be witnesses for Christ even to our friends and families.

The scripture reveals to us that the first thing Andrew did was to find his own brother and brought him to Christ. He first went to look for the one who was the closest to him. If anyone had to see Jesus first even if I have to preach to everyone, then it must be Simon (let's assume this was what he had in mind). We are to be witnesses for Christ and no one is trying to argue that with us but that as we witness for him to those outside who are not so close to us, let us also witness for him to those inside (our family members and friends too). It is my prayer also that whatsoever has been hindering us in this regard, the Lord would give us power over them in Jesus' name. Amen.

Thought for the day

As you are a witness for Christ to those outside your inner circle, also make sure to be a witness for Christ to those in your inner circle, that is, your family and friends.
