God be praised for his unending love toward us. It is my prayer that we would show him how much we love him by being obedient to his commands. Amen. We began a series yesterday on the affliction of the righteous and having laid the foundation for the teaching, we shall consider some examples to help us understand this better.
Today, we shall be looking at the story of a man in scripture who suffered so much. He was a man who did no wrong and offended no one. He lived in the fear of God and shunned evil. Yet, he was a man who suffered so much and said nothing to sin against God. Let's see the passage of Scripture below:
"And the Lord turned the captivity of Job, when he prayed for his friends: also the Lord gave Job twice as much as he had before. [13] He had also seven sons and three daughters". (Job 42:10,13)
We would not understand the passage of scripture if we do not understand what led to it. The man Job had lost everything he had including his children. Everything that he had ever worked for was taken from him. He had nothing left except his wife and his life.
The affliction became so much that he lost physical wellness as his whole body was filled with boils. I don't think anyone has the slightest idea of the pain this man had to face yet he did not sin against God ( Read Job chapters 1 and 2). He was even advised by his wife to curse God and die but refused.
The pain taught him lessons and his predicament sent people away. Why did he suffer so much if he was not a sinner? The answer is this, he was righteous. God had said concerning him that he was a man who feared him and shunned evil. It was for this reason that the devil decided to test him with so great an affliction. Truly, the affliction was much but the thing about Job which is the focus of this lesson is that he never fell below the standard God had placed him regardless of the situation and the Lord turned the captivity of Job and gave him twice as much that was taken from him. God delivered him from all his afflictions. He restored to him all he had lost. If he did it for Job, he would do it for you too. God bless his word in your heart. Amen.
Thought for the day: One of the ways through which God delivers the righteous out of his many afflictions is by restoring to him all that has been lost.
