Pleasant Words: Gospel Today Devotional - 2nd April, 2024

Let me start by saying as believers, the words we speak need help from other people so greatly that they are forever unable to recover from the influence of our words. The discouraged heart should leap for joy for he knows the words from your mouth will give him the courage and the encouragement he needs. Shouldn't people desire to be around you because of the words you speak? As believers, we need to speak pleasant (grace-filled and soul-lifting). Why? The scripture below captures the answer:

"Pleasant words are as an honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones". (Proverbs 16:24).

The scripture here compares pleasant words with a honeycomb that contains honey, and I want to believe that someone reading this today can attest to the fact that honey is very sweet. Scarcely will anyone want to throw away honey because of its sweetness.

That is what pleasant (grace-filled and soul-lifting) words can do. They can produce the sweetness a honeycomb produces.

It is therefore important that as believers, we speak pleasant words to the end that those who are weak can be strengthened to hope and live again, that the discouraged be encouraged, that the troubled in heart receives peace and calmness for his soul, etc.

The word of the Lord comes today to exhort us to rise as believers to the point where the only words that come from our mouth are pleasant words that are sweet to the soul of those who hear and health to their bones. The Lord help us all.

Thoughts for the Day

Let the words that come hear you to others, as a believer, be pleasant words that give people hope, and strength.
