Why is Easter Celebrated for 3 Days?

There are many questions and sometimes, criticizing statements as to why Christians all over the world celebrate Easter for three whole days and even give the period a special attention - many times, more than Christmas.

Here are the reasons listed

1. Jesus’ Crucifixion

Jesus was crucified on Friday and it was said that He was buried that same day according to the Bible and was in the grave and resurrected on the third day which means he was there Friday, Saturday, and then Sunday and was resurrected.

You may ask, why then is it celebrated from Friday down to Sunday? And not just Sunday alone?

The time of his death was a horrible moment but after three days, the importance of each day which includes Friday, Saturday, and Sunday dawned on the Christians and this was engraved into the religious activity of the Christians. Without his death in the first instance, there will not be a resurrection and the interim activities that held beneath; where he battled with the devil, got the keys of hell and death, and came out in triumph as king on Sunday morning.

Which day of the week did Jesus rise?

Matthew 28:1

_[1] At the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulcher._

According to Barnhart, Robert K. (1995), the first day of the week has been considered to be Sunday in the Judaic and Christian settings. This shows that Jesus rose on Sunday morning which is the first day of the week and signifies a new beginning.

Why is Easter important to Christians?

Easter signifies the reconciliation of humankind back to the Father through the sacrifice of Jesus but you may watch videos of his suffering and feel like crying or sad for the day, it's okay to cry at the moment but there is a joy that should overwhelm your heart seeing that all the beatings and suffering did not happen in vain.

Also, good Friday was somewhat called Terrible Friday some time ago because of the terrible earthquake and the fear it placed in the heart of the people at the time but for the fact that Jesus rose again and the effect of his death to building back the wall that has caused a drift between us and God made it worthy for a change in prefix.

Where is Easter in the Bible?

I will give you different places in the scripture where it was shown that Jesus rose and you should be aware that Easter is a tag name given concerning the resurrection of Jesus

1. Mark 16:9

[9]Now when Jesus rose early on the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had cast seven devils.

2. Luke 24:6-7

[6]He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in Galilee,

[7]Saying, The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and on the third day rises again.

3. Acts 17:3

[3]Opening and alleging, that Christ must needs have suffered, and risen again from the dead; and that this Jesus, whom I preach unto you, is Christ.

4. Romans 8:34

[34]Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.

5. 1 Corinthians 15:20

[20]But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the first fruits of them that slept.

All these scriptures are pointers to the resurrection of Jesus and proof that we have now been reconciled back to the Father.
