THE BILL
Long lost in thick darkness,
With no light in sight,
The verdict was death—
And yes, she deserved it.
She was a daughter of a traitor
Who, in ignorance, sold his dominion
To the cunniest of thieves—
the man called the stealer.
She was born into bondage,
With no voice, no choice,
Trapped in fleeting pleasure
That left only sighs in their wake.
A prisoner by inheritance,
Bound in chains till the set time.
Then, in the fullness of time,
a rescuer surfaced
Offering her hand in marriage.
The contract? Come with nothing.
Not her father's money, nor his ruins,
Only herself—her mouth and her heart.
For the price, he already paid.
With her mouth, she must confess:
"I am yours."
With her heart, she must believe.
He bought her freedom with blood, so precious,
Crowned with authority, she reigns at his side,
Indeed, a partaker of grace she never deserved.
