In a captivating session at the Federal University Lokoja (FUL), renowned Nigerian gospel minister and recording artist, Dr. Panam Percy Paul presented the 16th Distinguished Public Lecture titled "Destiny: The 10 Phases of Life and Human Development."
The event attracted a diverse audience, including students, faculty, and members of the public, eager to glean insights from the veteran musician's extensive experience.Dr. Paul, whose musical career spans over five decades, is celebrated for his contributions to gospel music in Nigeria and beyond. Born Bakulipanam Percy Paul Mokungah in Numan, Adamawa State, he began his musical journey at age 20 while studying Mechanical Engineering at Kaduna Polytechnic. His unique blend of praise and worship, infused with elements of country music and African highlife, has produced timeless songs such as "Come Let's Praise the Lord," "Master of the Universe," and the acclaimed "Bring Down the Glory" album series.
During his lecture, Dr. Paul delineated the ten distinct phases of human life, emphasizing how each stage contributes to personal growth and destiny. He interwove personal anecdotes, including his early challenges such as his father's initial disapproval of his musical aspirations and spiritual revelations that have shaped his path. "The turning point came when God visited me," he shared, highlighting the divine guidance that has been central to his life's work.
Beyond his musical achievements, Dr. Paul has been instrumental in mentoring emerging gospel artists through initiatives like the Panam College of Music Ministry in Jos, Plateau State. Established in 1998, the college has trained over 2,000 students in music, sound engineering, and music management. He also chairs the Fellowship of Gospel Music Ministers of Nigeria (FOGMMON), fostering unity and growth within the gospel music community.
