June 2, 303 AD

Saint Elmo, also known as Saint Erasmus of Formia, was one of the Fourteen Holy Helpers and a patron saint of sailors. According to tradition, he was tortured and martyred during Emperor Diocletian's persecution of Christians. The phenomenon of St. Elmo's Fire, a weather-related electrical discharge, is named after him.


June 2, 1094 AD

On this day, Saint Nicholas of Trani, a Benedictine monk and later a hermit in Italy died. He was known for his deep devotion and miracles. He was canonized by Pope Urban II in 1099.


June 2, 1347 AD

On this day, Franciscan friar and philosopher, known for Ockham’s Razor, a principle of simplicity in reasoning died. He challenged papal authority and was excommunicated but continued advocating for the separation of spiritual and secular power.


June 2, 553 AD

The Second Council of Constantinople, one of the seven ecumenical councils recognized by both the Eastern Orthodox and Catholic Churches, was held under Emperor Justinian I. It condemned certain Nestorian and Monophysite teachings to reinforce the doctrine of Christ’s two natures.


June 2, 304 AD

On this day, Pope Marcellinus of Rome, who served as pope from 296 to 304 AD died. He reportedly suffered martyrdom under Emperor Diocletian during the Great Persecution of Christians. His role remains somewhat controversial due to claims he may have briefly compromised under persecution.


June 2, 1920 AD

Pope Pius X officially canonized Saint Joan of Arc, the French peasant girl and warrior who led her country to victory before being burned at the stake in 1431. Her canonization was a major event, especially for France.


June 2, 1957 AD

Billy Graham launched his famous evangelistic crusade at Madison Square Garden in New York City. The event lasted for 16 weeks, drawing thousands each night and reaching millions via radio and television, marking one of the most significant revivals in 20th-century Christianity.
