July 17, 180 AD

On this day, twelve North African Christians from Scillium (near present-day Kasserine, Tunisia) were executed for their faith. This event, known as the martyrdom of the Scillitan Martyrs, is the earliest recorded instance of Christianity in that region.

July 17, 1674

Isaac Watts, born on July 17, 1674, in Southampton, England, became a renowned hymn writer, theologian, and logician. Often called the "Father of English Hymnody," he authored approximately 600 hymns, including "When I Survey the Wondrous Cross."

July 17, 2005

On this day, Lakewood Church, led by Pastor Joel Osteen, held its first service in the renovated Compaq Center in Houston, Texas. This move transformed the former sports arena into what became the largest church in the United States at that time.
