On this day, W. T. Gaston, former General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God, published a significant article titled “Guarding Our Priceless Heritage” in the Pentecostal Evangel.  In it, he cautioned against the rise of prosperity preachers and the dangers of sensationalism within the Pentecostal movement.  Gaston emphasized the importance of maintaining the early Pentecostal values of humility, holiness, and sacrificial living, warning that deviation could lead to spiritual decline.

From August 16 to 18, 1982, the Assemblies of God hosted the Conference on the Holy Spirit at Southwest Missouri State University (now Missouri State University) in Springfield, Missouri.  This landmark event brought together Pentecostals and charismatics from various denominations to explore the person and work of the Holy Spirit.  Notable speakers included Dennis J. Carter, a leader among African-American charismatics; Morris G.C. Vaagenes Jr., pastor of North Heights Lutheran Church; and John Bueno, Assemblies of God missionary to El Salvador.
