Pro-Chancellor Charges on Quality Service Delivery at Resumption Assembly

The Pro-Chancellor of Covenant University, Pastor (Mrs) Faith Oyedepo, has charged faculty and staff to sustain the highest standards of quality service delivery from the outset of the new year as the University resumes activities for the second half of the Alpha Semester, January 2026.

She gave the charge while addressing members of faculty and staff at the Resumption Assembly held at the University Chapel on Monday, January 5, 2026, to formally usher in the new academic year.

Speaking on the theme, "Setting the Pace for a Year of Excellence," the Pro-Chancellor emphasised the importance of starting the year on a strong footing and maintaining consistency in the pursuit of excellence across all areas of responsibility throughout the year.

She further underscored the centrality of spirituality to sustainable excellence, urging faculty and staff to remain steadfast in their spiritual commitments. Drawing her biblical reference from Romans 8:6, "For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace," she noted that genuine and lasting excellence is rooted in spirituality rather than reliance on the flesh, which could lead to compromise and corruption.

According to her, this is a critical time for faculty and staff to deepen their walk with God, stressing that the placement of spirituality as the arrowhead of Covenant University's Seven Core Values was deliberate and not merely symbolic. She encouraged regular and intentional engagement with the Word of God, noting that such discipline would allow the spirit of excellence to permeate all endeavours in the new year.

The Pro-Chancellor also recalled the early spiritual journey of the Chancellor, who yielded his life to Christ at a young age through the influence of a teacher. She observed that the single act of obedience laid the foundation for his impact as a mentor to many. She noted that if faculty and staff imbibe similar spiritual values, mentoring students entrusted to their care would become more effective, with divine backing for their efforts.

She reminded the assembly of their unique placement as destiny moulders within the University, describing Covenant University as a training ground for a revolutionary generation poised to transform their world. Citing Ephesians 2:10, "For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them," she urged faculty and staff to make themselves available for God's use in grooming students to become impactful change agents.

In conclusion, Pastor (Mrs) Oyedepo encouraged faculty and staff to embrace innovation and adopt new approaches to service delivery in order to remain relevant in a rapidly evolving global environment and meet the expectations of the students they are preparing for the future.

Earlier in his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Timothy Anake, welcomed faculty and staff into what he described as a new year of "Open Doors." He expressed appreciation for their dedication to student development and for the remarkable performances and accolades recorded by the University in the previous year. He further called for a more dynamic, professional, and result-driven approach to assigned responsibilities in the new year in order to surpass past achievements.

The programme was attended by members of the University Management, faculty, and staff.
