Gospel Film Industry Mourns Actor Omooba Oluwasegun Oyeyemi, Announces Burial Arrangements - New Man Media

The gospel film community in Nigeria is in mourning following the death of actor Omooba Oluwasegun Oyeyemi, with burial arrangements now confirmed for early July in Ibadan, Oyo State.

Oyeyemi, popularly known within gospel filmmaking circles as “Omooba”, was born on 5th June 1988 and died on 10th June 2026 at the age of 38.

Tributes have continued to pour in from colleagues in the gospel film industry, remembering Oyeyemi as a warm, deeply spiritual presence both on and off camera. Fellow filmmaker Tolu Adegbo described his passing as “the painful reality” balanced against the assurance of “eternal reign. In his words:

“Rest in peace, Omooba.

That smile was organic.
Omooba olusegun, You have been called to the back stage but your work will you were in stage keep speaking.
Adieu my Timo Timo.
😭😭😭😭😭
We judge God faithful

The Painful Reality😫 💔
Earthly Loss, Eternal Reign🙌”

Another colleague, Adeola Jerry-Oluwagbemi shared an extended tribute on his official Facebook page, recalling how the pair first met on the set of the gospel film Fiwajomi at Bowen University in 2010.

In the tribute, Jerry-Oluwagbemi remembered Oyeyemi as a man who “lived every moment circumspectively with eternity in view,” noting his commitment to evangelism through the screen, his role as a present and intentional father, and the depth of their friendship over the years. He also referenced Oyeyemi’s known catchphrase energy and infectious smile, writing that his laughter and warmth would be deeply missed by those who worked alongside him.

Colleagues have particularly highlighted Oyeyemi’s association with the gospel drama scene, where his natural, unforced smile and easy charisma made him a recognisable face in productions aimed at spreading the Christian message through film.

According to the official memorial announcement released by the family, burial rites for Omooba Oluwasegun Oyeyemi will take place over two days in Ibadan.
