Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Oritsejafor reflected on Nigeria’s political trajectory, saying he became concerned about the country’s direction as the 2015 elections approached.

According to the cleric, he openly expressed his reservations in 2014, believing that the incoming administration would struggle to address the nation’s challenges. He argued that subsequent developments had, in his view, validated those concerns. (Vanguard News)

Oritsejafor explained that he had largely stayed away from commenting on national politics for several years after concluding that many Nigerians were unwilling to listen to his counsel. However, he said the worsening state of the nation had compelled him to speak out once again.

The former CAN president said that as a pastor, he could not remain silent while many Nigerians continued to grapple with economic hardship, insecurity, and governance challenges. He stressed that public office holders should be held accountable for their actions and decisions.

During the interview, Oritsejafor also reflected on the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan, arguing that many of those who strongly criticised Jonathan’s government are now occupying positions of authority. He suggested that Nigerians should objectively assess the country’s current realities when comparing successive administrations.

The cleric’s remarks have generated widespread reactions across the country, adding to ongoing public debates about governance, leadership, and Nigeria’s political future.
