Kwankwaso Commends Catholic Bishops for Speaking on Hardship, Calls for Action on Insecurity

Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the vice-presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) for the 2027 elections, has praised the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) for what he described as their courage in speaking out on the country’s worsening economic hardship and security challenges.

In a statement shared on his social media platforms on Tuesday, Kwankwaso said the bishops’ concerns reflected the daily experiences of millions of Nigerians rather than partisan interests. He noted that rising living costs, insecurity, declining public confidence in governance, and limited access to essential services continue to place significant pressure on citizens across the country.

According to the former Kano State governor, Nigeria possesses abundant human and natural resources, yet many people still struggle with poverty, unemployment, insecurity, and inadequate access to quality education and healthcare. He urged those in leadership to respond with policies that prioritise the welfare and security of the people. 

Kwankwaso also encouraged Nigerians to continue engaging government leaders constructively while advocating for accountability and good governance. He said lasting peace and national prosperity would require collective commitment and responsible leadership from both public officials and citizens.

His remarks come days after the Catholic Bishops’ Conference raised concerns over the nation’s economic situation, insecurity, and governance during a meeting with President Bola Tinubu, urging decisive action to address the challenges confronting Nigerians.
