The New Man Writing Contest

New Man Writing Contest

When the New Man Movement launched in 2016, we organised certain major programmes and projects. One of these projects is the New Man Writing Contest which has successfully run for four years now despite the hitches that came up at some point in time.

At inception, the New Man Writing Contest was organised basically for students of secondary schools, cutting across the Junior and Senior categories. It was also open to Christians and non-Christians at the time. In our launch contest in 2016, Ojuko Temitope won the writing contest alongside Arukuje Oluwasegun.

In 2017 The Sun, a poem by Agu Gift won first position. The day the sun stood still by Onyekwelu Chinwenite Kingsley came second and Quagmire of Regrets by James Osinachi Sunday came third place out of 238 entries collected between February 13th and March 27th 2017.

For 2018, In honour of HRM, Oba Aroyinkeye Omoniyi, the Orangun Ile of Oke-Ila Orangun, Osun, we collected 1004 entries between 18th November, 2017 - March 21st, 2018. Our 2018 winners were Imagine, a Short story by Opeyimika Aremu. Oladoyin Ayodeji Victor's poem, The fall of Africa’ came second while "Ifeoma" by Enomah Exploit Ebubechukwu came third.

In 2019, we collected 1012 entries within 3 months from 24th July till 29th October, 2019 from across 58 secondary schools in Nigeria. An essay titled African Heritage and Values by Adeleke Adeniran won the Writing Contest. Adewonuola Ifeoluwa Esther's poem, My name is Africa came second place while The Future of Harms and Hopes by Edechukwu Matthais took third place position in the writing contest.

In 2020, we had our year of Rest. This Rest for us was more of a long retreat, the very first of its kind since we started out as an organisation. It was necessary because we needed to restructure and realign to the purpose of God for us as a ministry.

Why then is this story necessary?

We have evolved over the years to become a full Gospel Media Ministry. As such, our programmes now fully take similar features and structures. The New Man Writing Contest itself will adopt a new structure as outlined below.

1. The New Man Writing Contest Only features Gospel entries in any of the following categories - Poetry, Drama, Prose or Article writing.
2. Submission of Entries is Open to Christians without any restrictions to age, nationality or location.

Asides from these major changes, all other features of the writing contest remain.

Our Judges in previous years have shifted between James Coburn, Brian Kasaine, Akor Emmanuel Oche, Abayomi Adeola Della, Dr. Uzo Nwamara,  and Brigitte Poirson, (Chief Judge)
