There is a verse in Proverbs that Nigerian parents quote often: “Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.” (Proverbs 22:6). This Proverb, in its literal sense, works in some families in Nigeria so much that when you see them, you confirm that indeed, God’s calling runs in the blood.
So we ask: what happens when not just one child - but two, three, or four children from the same home all answer the same call to ministry? What happens when the family devotional at breakfast becomes, decades later, the theological DNA of two separate churches in two separate cities, both founded by siblings who once shared the same bunk bed?
Nigeria is remarkable for this. Across denominations and ministry traditions, there are families in which the gospel calling did not stop at the first child, but flowed through the entire household. Some of these siblings serve in the same church, some founded separate ministries, and some are twins who have never truly stopped ministering side by side.
This is a tribute to those families, and a reminder of what the Bible has always known: that God does not always call individuals - sometimes He calls houses.
1. The Adeboyes
When people think of the Adeboye family, they think of the General Overseer, Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, the man whose monthly Holy Ghost Service draws millions to the Redemption Camp and whose ministry has planted the RCCG churches in over 190 countries. But Daddy Adeboye’s story is also the story of a household that raised four by biological children in the camp - literally, and watched all four of them step into pastoral ministry.
Pastor Leke Adeboye has three other siblings — Pastor Adeolu Adeboye, the late Pastor Oluwadamilare Adeboye (Dare), and Pastor Bolu Adubi. Like himself, his siblings are also pastors under the Redeemed Christian Church of God.
Pastor Leke Adeboye is described as having a life motto of “Heaven is the goal.” He is exceptionally gifted to train and rally his passion for the youths and young adults, and is a member of the RCCG Worldwide Youth and Young Adults Ministry Executive Board.
Pastor Adeolu Adeboye is praised for several revolutionary ideas to the church and devotes his life to establishing and institutionalising the efficiency of all RCCG’s processes and standards of operations, with a focus on creating a better worship experience for parishioners at the Redemption Camp.
The story of this family carries a shadow that cannot be avoided with integrity. Pastor Enoch Adeboye lost his son Dare Adeboye on 4 May 2021, who died at the age of 42. Pastor Dare had served as one of the most influential Youth Pastors in RCCG, with postings in England, Kaduna, and Abuja, and was nationally known for his passion to reach the next generation. His passing was a moment of deep grief for the entire Nigerian church.
What the Adeboye family demonstrates is both the grace and the cost of a life given entirely to ministry - raised on the camp, formed in the church, and sent out to serve. Four children. Four pastors. One household. One God.
2. The Oyedepos
Bishop David Oyedepo is the founder of Living Faith Church Worldwide (Winners’ Chapel) and one of the most influential Christian leaders on the African continent. Bishop David Oyedepo has four children from his marriage to his dear wife, Pastor Faith Oyedepo: David Oyedepo Junior, Isaac Oyedepo, Love Oyedepo, and Joyce Oyedepo.
Of the four, two sons followed their father into ordained pastoral ministry - and the story of how they were ordained is itself one of the more remarkable moments in Nigerian church history.
On 18th May 2007, Pastors David Junior and Isaac Oyedepo were ordained into full-time ministry. They were ordained by Pastor Kenneth Copeland at Faith Tabernacle, Canaanland Ota. Both of them are the biological children of Bishop David Oyedepo. It was reported as the first time anyone other than Bishop Oyedepo himself had ministered at that pulpit — a fact that signals how extraordinary the moment was.
David Oyedepo Jr. is now the resident pastor of the ministry’s headquarters, Faith Tabernacle in Ota, Ogun State. He is also the youngest Vice President of the Living Faith Church. Isaac Oyedepo has served as the pastor of Living Faith Church International in the United States of America, after previously being pastor in charge of the church in South Africa.
Two sons. Two continents. One calling. The Oyedepo name continues to carry weight not just because of the father who built the platform, but because of the sons who chose, with full knowledge of what it would cost, to step onto it.
3. The Adefarasins
Most Nigerian Christians know that Pastor Wale Adefarasin and Pastor Paul Adefarasin are brothers. Fewer know that there is a third brother - Apostle Yemi Adefarasin, who is also in ministry.
Pastor Wale Adefarasin is the Senior Pastor and General Overseer of Guiding Light Assembly (GLA), while his younger brother Paul Adefarasin is the founder and Senior Pastor of House on the Rock.
Paul’s parents are of mixed races - his mother is of Jamaican origin. Paul was raised in a very devout Christian home with strong civic principles. His brothers are Rev. Wale Adefarasin, who is also a renowned Nigerian Christian minister, and Apostle Yemi Adefarasin, who is a Nigerian Christian minister too.
The Adefarasin family story is remarkable for the range it represents. Wale leads Guiding Light Assembly, a multi-site church known for its intellectual depth and leadership formation. Paul leads House on the Rock and founded The Experience Lagos — the annual all-night gospel concert which draws hundreds of thousands and is streamed by millions worldwide.
Both brothers are televangelists: Paul hosts a weekly programme “Something Is About to Happen” and Wale co-hosts “Heart of the Matter.”
Their father was Justice Joseph Adefarasin, a High Court judge. Their mother was a women’s rights activist. From that home — civic, principled, Christian — came three brothers who built churches, planted ministries, and shaped the spiritual landscape of Lagos. The courtroom father would not have been surprised. He raised his children to care deeply about what is right. They simply found the highest court of all.

4. The Oyors
There is something uniquely moving about twins who not only share a birthday and a face but also a calling, a ministry, and a church. The Oyor twins are that story.
Lawrence and Godswill Oyor were born into a family of four children. Their parents, Late Reverend Dr. Gomba Fortune Oyor and Reverend Patience Oyor, were founders of God Will Do It Ministries, a thriving church in Ibadan. Lawrence’s twin brother, Pastor Godswill Oyor, shares not only his birthday but also his passion for ministry and worship.
Lawrence and his twin brother Godswill co-founded Davidic Minstrels, an international worship movement. He also founded Catalyst Network International, and is the senior pastor of the Davidic Generation Church.
In November 2021, Lawrence and Godswill co-founded Davidic Generation Church in Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria. The church was not a solo project by one brother — it was built together, from the beginning, as a shared act of obedience.
Their father, Rev. Gomba Fortune Oyor, has since passed away — but not before planting in his twin sons a love for worship, prayer, and the presence of God that neither of them has ever outgrown. Lawrence married Darasimi Mike-Bamiloye, daughter of gospel filmmaker Evangelist Mike Bamiloye — joining two ministry families into one.
The Oyor twins are proof that God sometimes creates a person in duplicate — not because one would be insufficient, but because the assignment requires two hearts beating as one.
5. The Ogebes
Prophet Joel Adole Ogebe is a second-generation preacher who was born on the 16th of March into the family of Pastor Matthew Ogebe and Mrs. Ogebe, an Apostolic lineage. He is the founder and Senior Pastor of the House of Salem International Ministries, headquartered in Abuja, Nigeria.
Born on 20th April, 1999 to the family of Pastor Matthew Ogebe Onuminya, Pastor Oche Prince Ogebe is the founder and President of the Enlightened Revival Assembly (ERA), a ministry expression headquartered in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. Born into the Ogebe family, with the revered Prophet Joel Ogebe as his elder brother, Pastor Prince Ogebe is a chemist by profession who has grown in grace in God to minister sounds that are heart cries to the Father.
Joel and Prince are separated by roughly six years and represent two generations of the same prophetic DNA — sons of a pastor, raised in northern Nigeria, both called to ministry before they were old enough to fully understand what it would cost them.
Prophet Joel, under the spiritual mentorship of Apostle Arome Osayi, leads the House of Salem International Ministries. Prince, trained as a chemist at the Federal University of Agriculture Makurdi, previously served as Resident Pastor of House of Salem Lagos before founding the Enlightened Revival Assembly in Uyo.
Two brothers. Both chemists of the Spirit, really - isolating the elements of God’s presence and releasing them into rooms wherever they go.
6. The Adeyemis
Pastor Sam Adeyemi is my elder brother and interestingly, there is just a year and ten months between us. Fortunately, we came into our spiritual persuasion and calling at the same time. So, just like we grew up together physically, we grew up spiritually and we worked under the same pastor also and we left that ministry the same time and we didn’t plan it as siblings. He was the first person to speak on a journey that he was planning — “God is speaking to me about starting a ministry” — and I was like, “really? I was planning on doing the same.” It was a discovery we both made and that was how we started our ministry.
That account, in Rev. Victor Adeyemi’s own words, is one of the most remarkable testimony of parallel divine calling in Nigerian Christian history. Two brothers, barely two years apart, both feeling the same pull at the same time, both leaving the same Rhema Chapel in Kwara State, both founding separate ministries — without coordinating it.
Born into a religious family in Odo-Ere, Yagba-West Local Government Area of Kogi State, Rev. Sam Adeyemi and Rev. Victor Adeyemi became household names in Nigerian ministry. Both brothers began their pastoral journey in Ilorin, Kwara State, after joining Rhema Chapel International Church under the mentorship of Rev. George Adegboye. Both brothers have spent over 30 years in full-time ministry.
Sam founded Daystar Christian Centre in Lagos in 1995 — today one of Nigeria’s most influential churches, known particularly for its leadership development work. Victor founded Global Harvest Church, with branches across Nigeria and internationally.
Despite their shared faith and family background, reports have circulated for over a decade about a possible rift between the brothers. However, the loss of their mother seemed to bring the family together, with both brothers attending her burial service at Wale’s church in 2023.
7. The Odukoyas
The Odukoya story is one of the most emotionally layered in Nigerian Christian history. Taiwo Odukoya and Bimbo Odukoya co-founded The Fountain of Life Church in 1992. Their mother, Pastor Bimbo Odukoya - one of Nigeria’s most beloved women ministers, counsellors, and authors — died in the 2005 Sosoliso Airlines crash. Their father, Pastor Taiwo Odukoya, led the church alone for nearly two decades, remarried, and died on 7 August 2023 at the age of 67.
Two months after their father’s passing, a ceremony was held that the Nigerian church will remember for a long time.
Fountain of Life Church installed Jimmy Odukoya as Senior Pastor. Alongside him, his sister Tolu Odukoya-Ijogun received a divine appointment as the Associate Senior Pastor — amplifying that spiritual calling truly runs deep in the Odukoya lineage.
Jimmy Odukoya is the first son and second child of late pastors Bimbo and Taiwo Odukoya. He succeeded his father as the official Senior Pastor of the Fountain of Life Church, with his sister Tolu Odukoya-Ijogun confirmed as his Associate Senior Pastor, both from September 2023.
Jimmy is also a celebrated Nollywood actor who appeared in the Hollywood blockbuster The Woman King alongside Viola Davis, one of the most globally visible crossover moments in Nigerian Christian ministry. Tolu is a worship leader, recording artist, and marketing professional whose pastoral voice has grown steadily since her ordination in 2016.
They were raised by two parents who poured their lives into a church. They buried both of those parents. And then they stood up and led.

8. The Bamiloys
No list of Nigerian ministry families is complete without the Bamiloyes - and yet this angle of the story is often underreported. Most people know Evangelist Mike Bamiloye and his wife Gloria Bamiloye as the founders of Mount Zion Faith Ministries, the drama and gospel film organisation behind Agbara Nla, Abattoir, *Abejoye*, and dozens of other productions that have shaped Nigerian Christian culture for over three decades.
Fewer people think about what it meant for the children raised inside that ministry to find their own callings.
Joshua Mike-Bamiloye has emerged as one of Nigeria’s most influential voices for young Christian filmmakers and ministers, actively involved in drama ministry and digital gospel content creation. He has publicly addressed topics including the loss of colleagues in the Abattoir cast and has carried significant weight as a generational voice within Mount Zion’s legacy.
Darasimi Bamiloye, the only daughter, is a spoken word artist, actress, scriptwriter, and film producer who married Lawrence Oyor in 2020, joining the Bamiloye and Oyor ministry lineages in one of the most celebrated gospel weddings in recent Nigerian Christian history.
The Bamiloye children grew up on set, behind cameras, in prayer rooms, and on roads to drama evangelism locations across Nigeria. What they absorbed in childhood became the foundation for what they are now building in adulthood.
What These Families Teach the Church
Looking at all eight families in this article, a pattern emerges that is worth naming. In almost none of these cases did the siblings sit down as children and decide together that they would all become pastors. In most cases, each one had an independent encounter with God - a personal call, a specific moment, a conviction that did not originate in family pressure. And yet, because of how they were raised, because of the soil that was prepared in their homes, when the call came, it found them ready.
This is the theology of Proverbs 22:6 made visible in real families. Train up a child. Point them to God early and consistently and authentically. Show them what it looks like to give everything for the gospel. And then watch what happens when the Holy Spirit comes looking for someone to send.
He often goes to the houses where He has already been welcomed. And sometimes He comes back - not for one child, but for all of them.
